My friend Jonathan Volk just released a guide titled Affiliate Marketing 101. The guide is completely free, and you just need to subscribe to his email newsletter to get access.
I just went there to check the material, and I must say that it is really solid. Jonathan covers pretty much all you need to know to get started with affiliate marketing. He generated over $4 million last year in affiliate sales, so he sure knows what he is talking about, too.
Here is a list of the sections included:
• Introduction
• What Is Affiliate Marketing?
• What Is An Affiliate Network?
• Recommended Affiliate Networks
• How Does All This Come Together?
• The “Pregame”
• The “Pregame” Pt. 2 – Know Your Demographics
• The “Pregame” Pt. 3 – Setting Up Hosting / Domain Name
• Setting Up A Simple PHP Redirect
• The Landing Page
• Affiliate Marketing Methods (Basic Overview)
• Social Media Affiliate Marketing Guide
• Pay Per View Affiliate Marketing Guide
• Pay Per Click Affiliate Marketing Guide
• Media Buying Affiliate Marketing Guide
• After Your Campaigns Are Ready To Launch
• Conclusion
You’ll find the sections where he talks about affiliate marketing methods particularly useful, because he goes into details about the techniques he uses, the tricks that he found effective to generate more sales and so on.
Finally, he is also having a contest where the two people sending more referrals to the affiliate marketing guide we’ll win an Apple iPad. You’ll get your referral link once you subscribe to the newsletter. Neat promotional idea by the way, huh?

Maybe I’m just hyper-sensitive on the whole topic of getting older.
After all, I’m getting ready to celebrate the 10th anniversary of my 37th birthday (you do the math), so of course, anything that seems like it’s age-related is just jumping out at me.
So the headline “Is blogging a slog? Some young people think so” hit me almost as hard as the ma’ams do when I’m out buying groceries.
According to a study done by a group at Harvard, kids just aren’t finding blogging cool anymore. Since they’re all so busy texting away, their forms of communication have also become a lot shorter.
Instead of putting their efforts into maintaining blog entries, they’re putting their thoughts, aspirations and advertising copy out there on places like Twitter, where they can do them in 140 character bits, rather than on websites that require more work and time.
But just what is everyone tweeting about? The best tweets — and the ones that get re-tweeted — are about, you guessed it, blogs.
So even with this disheartening news about the younger Internet users turning to quicker takes for more instant gratification, is there still room for good blogging?
Of course there is. Because, with all the quickness and immediacy of tweeting and texting, there remains one thing missing — great content.
After all, while you can get your points out there really fast with a quick text, there really isn’t room for much more than a few words by doing that.
How can you share your political thoughts, your how-tos, or even a great recipe for homemade salsa when you’re limiting yourself to just a few choice words?
According to the article, younger people haven’t entirely abandoned blogging. They’re still using it for working purposes. However, the thrill has gone for those users, and they’re turning to more immediate communications and video to communicate their most pressing issues.
So how do we bring it all together again? The answer is simple — take a look at your blog and see if it’s keeping up with the times.
Are your posts way too long? Are you taking forever to get to the point?
And when you’re writing, are you paying close attention to what someone could grab onto and retweet? Or are you just going on and on about subjects that nobody really cares about but you?
When was the last time you updated your blog? I mean really updated it? When did you make your graphics easy to use? Include a video or a game that readers would find entertaining?
And are you using those new-fangled ways to communicate yourself? Do you have a Twitter account? They’re great for contacting other professionals in your field, and for putting the word out there yourself about what you’ve written.
Keeping your blogs exciting does take a lot of work. However, abandoning the use of a good blog is a big mistake. After all, we all have something to share — and blogs give all of us a great opportunity to share what we know with the world.

There’s been a lot of Buzz about Google Buzz since it was launched, much of it critical. One of the main criticisms was the hastily plugged privacy hole, but there have been others. I am definitely one of the bloggers that jumped on the Buzz bandwagon, mostly because I love trying out new things. One week on, I’m still using it, something that never happened with Wave. The fact that it was right there in my email made it even easier for me to get started with it.
Criticisms Of Buzz
There are some things that Buzz doesn’t do nearly as well as the other social media services like Twitter, Facebook and Friendfeed. Considering that Buzz is embedded in Gmail, which has awesome filtering capabilities, the absence of similar capacity in Buzz is odd. I’d like to be able to filter my friends stream easily or divide them into lists to I can see the particular set of updates I’m interested in. That’s somewhere where Facebook and Friendfeed have the upper hand.
Buzz is also incredibly noisy if you are following people like Richard Scoble, Darren Rowse, Mashable or Louis Gray. Since it shows you the posts with the most activity, you almost always see these at the top of your Buzz stream, while other, more recent posts might be lost. That makes Buzz almost useless for me, as I want to know what’s happening with all the people I am following, not just the most popular. I ended up unfollowing those people so I could see what was happening with the rest. Surely that negates the point of Buzz?
I also find it irritating that I can only see a few updates within a window, when I’d like to see more links and to be able to choose whether to see the comments or not. Fewer defaults, more choice – that’s what Buzz needs. Having said that, there are things I like about it.
Kudos For Buzz
I love being able to read a post inline and comment without leaving Buzz. I’ve commented on posts that I might have previously read and tweeted but otherwise ignored. That’s good news for bloggers who Buzz. I’ve found that people have done the same on some of my posts. These are people who might get my posts by email but might never bother to comment, so the increased interaction is a major plus.
Even better, I’ve been able to have conversations on Buzz with people I don’t normally speak to, not because I don’t want to, but because their tweets and updates get lost in the other social media arenas I frequent. I also like the fact that there’s no character limit on my comments, a big advantage over Twitter.
Finally – and I’m not sure whether this is good or bad – Buzz is right there when I check my email, so I find myself using more than a few other social media sites. It’s hard to resist that unread icon. Placing it within email was a smart, but distracting, move.
My Buzz Wish List
I do have a short wish list of things I’d like to see on Buzz to make the experience more useful and enjoyable for bloggers. Many of these are already available in other Google products so presumably they could be implemented soon:
What’s on your Buzz wish list?

- ability to filter by date, type, user and more
- the ability to group Buzzes in a cloud, list, magazine format so that you can cut through the noise (another form of filtering)
- the ability to automatically remove duplicate entries posted from different sources (as in Google search)

Well, it’s really gonna happen. According to a press release yesterday, “Microsoft and Yahoo announced today that they have received clearance for their search agreement, without restrictions, from both the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission, and will now turn their attention to beginning the process of implementing the deal.”
So What Is The Microsoft-Yahoo Search Deal, Exactly?
In a nutshell, the deal means that Yahoo search results and sponsored listings will be powered by Microsoft/Bing. Yahoo will still control the user interface and extra features (i.e. Shopping and news results) but the main search results and the PPC ads will be powered by Bing.
What Does This Mean For Bloggers?
There will be many changes due to this deal, but the 3 biggest that we’re aware of right now are:
1: You Need To Start Paying More Attention To SEO For Bing
Since Yahoo Search and Bing will be powered by the same algorithm, sites should perform about the same on both. In other words, if your blog is top ranked on Bing, you’ll be top ranked on Yahoo. (The press release implies that you’ll rank exactly the same on both search engines, but we’ll probably have to wait and see.) Together, Yahoo and Bing control 25% of the US search market. While that is less than Google’s 66%, it’s still a substantial market that you’ll certainly want to target.
Fortunately, Bing seems to want to make it easy for webmasters and SEO’s. They now offer a robust set of webmaster tools, with documentation, guides, and even forums where Bing team members will sometimes reply directly to questions at Bing Webmaster Center!
2: MSN AdCenter Will Have A Much Larger Reach
MSN AdCenter will have a greatly expanded reach, since sponsored results on Bing and Yahoo search will both be pulled from MSN AdCenter. If you have advertised on Google Adwords, but not on MSN or Yahoo due to the smaller search volume, you may want to change your tactic. While it won’t match Google’s market share, MSN Adcenter will have a greatly expanded reach that will be well worth your effort to utilize. Unfortunately, bid prices will probably also go up when more advertisers start using AdCenter.
3: Some Yahoo Tools Might Change Or Disappear
Several Yahoo tools used by marketers and webmasters, most notably Yahoo BOSS and Site Explorer, may be in danger. Only time will tell, as the Yahoo team keeps hinting that they may be able to keep these tools.
When Will This Happen?
According to the official press release, the deal is expected to be implemented in the US before the 2010 holidays. I’m just guessing, but I would imagine that means by October at the very latest. The release also said that they might delay implementation until 2011 “if they determine that the transition will be more effective after the holiday season.”
What We Don’t Know
There are many finer details we don’t know yet, such as how identical Bing and Yahoo results will be, whether certain tools will still exist, or if Bing/Adcenter will experience growing pains during this transition. But the bottom line is that Bing/Adcenter will now control a much larger market share – bloggers, SEO’s and advertisers should pay attention.

I remember growing up in the 1970s and , yes, we had long hair ,bell bottom pants and platform shoes. I run into many people today that still say the popular music that came out back then is still better than anything that comes out today and while that’s true, the technology that can be enjoyed today is obviously much better than anything we had before. I think part of the trick is in knowing how to use it.
I’ve just read the beginning of the article over and can see where it might maker me look older than I am, but that’s really half the point I’m trying to make when it comes to things like blogging—that everything has moved so fast technologically you need to be sure that what’s out there is good for your career as a blogger. Most of the time it is.
Here a good example. When I started writing seriously there weren’t anything called blogs and of course there wasn’t even an Internet and the only computers that I remember were on the bridge of the USS Enterprise. (In fact, had you told me about blogs back then, I might have thought it was the title of the latest monster movie from Steven Speilberg.)
I started out on an electric typewriter and thought the height of technology was the white ‘auto-erase’ ribbon that could white out any mistake that I made while I was typing. Back then, a big part of writing anything was all about watching out that you didn’t make too many mistakes and a clean white sheet of 8 x 10 paper could look quite intimidating with nothing on it. Thank God for computers. It took me a while at first, but when I finally found out how to use Spellcheck to my advantage, I could concentrate on the thoughts that I wanted to get down and stop worrying about errors on the page.
The point here is that I concentrate more on those red squiggles after I’ve written out a blog or article. Knowing that I can go back and fix those things after allows me to write the way that I’m supposed to, from start to finish concentrating on getting the whole idea down on the screen. The mistakes and typos can wait until after.
Then there’s the Internet itself. I still love the library and I don’t think that the Internet will ever replace those great buildings for the relative comfort of sitting down in that cozy environment with a good novel. I’ve written three books and while they’re available on the web through Amazon and Chapters in Canada, I still like to see them sitting on a wooden library shelf, but the web has some distinct advantages when it comes to research.
I never imagined when I was writing on that old electric typewriter that one day I’d have all this knowledge at my fingertips, and I can certainly be more productive than ever before sitting in front of my mobile laptop. Change is good.

You probably have already seen a bio like this one on Twitter, LinkedIn or on some other social networking site:
John Doe is a web designer, programmer, SEO consultant, web entrepreneur, author, speaker, business coach, journalist and tech enthusiast.
Not sure about you, but when I come across bios like the one above I immediately conclude two things: 1) the person is not really sure about what she wants to do professionally and 2) she is not going to achieve outstanding results on any of the mentioned fields.
This concept applies to any aspect of our lives, and he is one offline example to illustrate it. I play the saxophone, and I used to study on a local music school. I remember that we had two sax teachers there. One of them had only played the sax his whole life. The other played the sax, but also played violin, guitar, flute, and a bunch of other instruments.
The first teacher was considered a sax master, and as a result he was requested to play around all the time, made a good living from giving private lessons and so on. The other one was seen just as an average player, on all the instruments he played. As a result he struggled to get recognition and financial rewards.
You can find similar stories inside the corporate world, too. There are employees who do a bit of everything. They do some marketing work, move to the finance department, then they spend some months working with the human resources manager and so on. But those usually have a flat career. Employees who are very specialized and deliver outstanding results, on the other hand, usually get promoted and reach leadership positions pretty fast.
If you want to achieve success, therefore, you must specialize in something and be among the best people who do that thing. Sure there are some cases of brilliant people who were the best doing several different things, but that is the exception that confirms the rule.
Great painters only paint.
Great programmers only code.
Great entrepreneurs only build businesses.
Great authors only write.
So on and so forth.
What about you, do you already know what you want to do? If you do, focus all your energies on it and become one of the best people in the world who can do that. If you don’t know yet, well, figure it out instead of trying to do a bit of everything. The least thing you want to become is a jack of all trades. In fact the figure of speech goes like this: “Jack of all trades, master of none.”

One of the best ways to keep your blog going while you regain your focus is to get guest bloggers. It’s a good time to invite your readers to make their contribution to your blog. You’ve got a couple of options here: you could issue an open invitation or you could contact a few bloggers who have left thoughtful or useful comments and ask them to write something for the blog. If your blog is making lots of money, then consider hiring someone to help you. It’s important to choose the right person — someone who knows the blog, knows the readers, has something to say and isn’t the same slump that you’re in.
Change of scene
Once you’ve taken care of that, it’s time to broaden your horizons. Perhaps the people who are guest posting on your blog would like you to guest post on theirs. There is nothing like writing for a new audience to get the creative juices flowing. Trying to appeal to someone else by writing something that is different from your regular content can help you to rediscover what you loved about blogging in the first place.
Take a break
If blogging for others doesn’t do it for you then maybe it’s time to take a complete break. Schedule some posts and guest posts and then go offline for a while. Read papers and books, watch television, visit family — do anything but blog. Keep a notebook handy to jot down any ideas that come to you — it’s funny how they do when you’re trying not to think about your blog.
Start over
Sometimes you have to face the fact that you will never be interested in the topic again. Perhaps the blog grew up out of a particular interest which you have now left behind or perhaps you really have said everything you want to say about it. That might not be true for everyone else. Consider starting a new blog on the passion that drives you now. As for your old blog, you’ve got lots of choices — you can leave it on the web as a resource for others or sell it on to someone who’s got ideas about how to develop it.
Taking my own advice
I’ve got a bunch of old blogs littering the web (and in some cases I mean that literally). I’ve got a couple of blogs that are about four years old on sites that I outgrew when I started blogs on their own domains. I’ve got a couple of Blogger blogs — at least one of which I might go back to one day. On my writing blog, I took my own advice and asked someone whose skill I respected to become a regular contributor. And I’ve also started a new blog on a topic that I’m excited about. What have you done to get your mojo back as a blogger?

An effective internal linking strategy is important for a few reasons: 1) It helps to increase page views and encourage readers to stay on your blog longer by providing enticing links to content that may interest them, and 2) it can help to improve the search engine rankings for your posts and pages.
In this article we’ll take a look at ten easy ways to improve the internal linking throughout your blog. Put these into action and you’ll be well on your way to creating a more user-friendly blog and also helping your search engine rankings at the same time.
1. Use a sitemap
Sitemaps are not only important for helping visitors find what they’re looking for, but they’re also an easy way to increase the amount of internal links to your important pages. I’m not talking about XML sitemaps created for search engines (although they can be important too), but rather a sitemap for your readers with links to all of your posts, or at least your most important ones.
WordPress users can use the Sitemap Generator Plugin from Dago Design to automatically create a sitemap for their blog. This plugin creates a helpful sitemap page with links to your posts arranged by category.
2. Create a FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions pages can help you to get internal links to your posts while using highly targeted keywords and phrases. Create some common questions readers might have that can be answered by your blog posts. Pose the question on the FAQ page and partially answer the question and provide a link to a particular post for more information. When phrasing the questions, use keywords that readers are likely to use when performing a search, as this can help to improve traffic from search engines. Also use keywords in the anchor text of the links to your posts.
3. Link to related posts
Linking to posts on similar topics can help your readers to find additional content that may interest them. Just as importantly, it can also improve the number of internal links to your blog posts. You can manually create related links at the end of your posts, or you can use a plugin to do it for you. WordPress users can download the Related Entries plugin.
4. Include links to your most popular posts on your sidebar
Many blogs contain links to specific posts in the sidebar. Linking to those that are the most popular is a good way to increase your page views and also to improve your internal link strength. This also can either be done manually or with the use of a plugin. Doing it manually will require updates and changes whenever you want to feature new posts, whereas a plugin like MostWanted will eliminate the manual effort.
5. Write a series of posts
One easy way of building up the number of internal links going from one post to another is to write a series. As the series is written and published each post can link to the others. If you have a very long post, consider breaking it into a series. Be careful not to do this all the time as your readers may start to feel like you are using them to gain page views.
6. Do a weekly or monthly summary
Many bloggers wrap up each month with a post that links to some of the most popular recent posts on the blog with a brief description of each. This obviously gives you a chance to add some internal links, and it can help readers who may have missed some posts as well as new subscribers who may not have had the opportunity to read some of your best work.
7. Place links on your 404 pages
Error pages are frustrating to visitors. Help make your 404 error pages more-user friendly and drive a little bit of extra traffic to some of most important posts. Most WordPress themes include a 404.php file that can be edited to include and content you want, including links. If you are using a WordPress theme that does not include a 404 file, see the WordPress Codex for instructions.
8. Include links in your footer
Depending on what blog theme you are using, your footer may be wasted space that includes very little valuable content. Many visitors who have read to the bottom of your posts or scrolled all the way down looking for something will check the footer for relevant links rather than scrolling back to the top. Why not provide these visitors with links to other posts or pages on your blog?
9. Use text links throughout posts
As your writing your blog posts keep an open eye for opportunities to link to older posts. If you have text relates to the topic of an older post, create a link. As you build more and more content this will be even easier to do. It’s also a good idea to periodically go back through some of your older posts to look for linking opportunities to more recent posts that did not exist at the initial time of publishing.
It may be especially beneficial to include links in the first few paragraphs of a post, as some bloggers have reported highly increased click-through rates from RSS readers with links high in the content,
10. The aLinks plugin for WordPress
WordPress users can take advantage of the aLinks plugin to automatically create links for commonly used phrases throughout their blog posts. The plugin is designed for use with internal links as well as external links (especially affiliate links).

Some time ago I wrote an article titled “Are you marketing your blog?” where I argued that there is a myth around the Internet that bloggers and webmasters should not spend money on advertising. The myth comes in great extent from the success stories of people that managed to create popular websites without spending a dime on advertising or other paid promotion techniques.
The reality is that most of those successful websites were pioneers on their niche, hence why they became popular without spending money on advertising. Now a days the market is crowded and you have thousands of websites and blogs even for small segments. As a consequence paid promotional techniques are becoming an important factor of any successful marketing strategy.
Below you will find 7 ways to promote your website or blog with a bit of money. You can use them to generate raw traffic, improve your search engine rankings, gain visibility on your niche and so on. Despite the initial investment most of those techniques will pay off on the short to medium term. If you are expecting to make money with your website there is no reason to assume that you will not need to spend some as well, right?
1. AdWords : Google make billions of dollars every year from the AdWords-AdSense combo. Why is that? Because they work. Adwords is probably the most efficient method to generated raw traffic for your website. In order to get started you should create an account, add lots (by lots I mean hundreds if not thousands) of keywords that are related your site and set the maximum Pay-per-Click rate at $0.01. After that raise the rate by $0.01 every week or so until you start getting the desired amount of daily clicks. Notice that at lower bids the keywords will be reported as “Inactive for Search”. Do not worry about it, it just means that your ads will not appear on the search network (Google’s search results), but they will appear on the content network (websites of people that use AdSense).
2. Site-Specific AdWords: if you pay attention to the AdSense units you will see that most of them have a link titled “Advertise on this site”. This feature enables AdWords advertisers to create customized ads that will be displayed only on specific websites. Those ads work on a CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) rather than a CPC (cost per click) basis, but they can generate a good amount of very targeted traffic since you will be in control of where the ad will be displayed and of the message. You can get even better results if you use some creativity when designing the ads.
3. StumbleUpon Ads: StumbleUpon is a very innovative social bookmarking site that allows users to discover great websites by using a browser toolbar. When the user clicks on “Stumble” he will be delivered a website that people with similar interested rated positively. The user is also able to give positive and negative ratings to any website that he visits on the Internet. StumbleUpon also offers advertising campaigns, called StumbleUpon Ads, where you can deliver your website directly to those “Stumblers”. It costs $0.05 per page delivered, but since the websites that appear on StumbleUpon usually have a high quality it is very likely that part of that paid traffic will convert into regular readers.
4. Text Link Ads: if you are trying to increase your search engine rankings to leverage organic traffic you should consider buying some text link ads. While those text links can also generate direct traffic the biggest benefit you will have is an improvement on your search rankings, specially if the links are placed on authoritative and relevant websites. There are several places to buy text links, including specialized companies like Text-Link-Ads and Text Link Brokers or online forums like Digital Point’s market place.
5. Direct Banner Sales: most established websites sell banner ads or sponsorship plans directly. Those advertising deals usually are structured with weekly or monthly fees, regardless of the number of impressions or clicks that you will get. Despite this characteristic a banner placement can represent good value for money because apart from the direct traffic you will also create visibility and brand awareness. Readers of the website where you will display your banner will associate the message on the banner with your site or blog. Should they come across that banner or message two or three times it is very likely that they will get curious and decide to check what the buzz is all about. Another advantage of banner placements is the fact that people will unconsciously think that the author of the website endorses your content or product.
6. Sponsored Reviews: buying some sponsored reviews is a good way to kick-start a website. They will bring backlinks, traffic and RSS subscribers. There are many market studies confirming that “word of mouth” is the most efficient way to capture people’s attention, and that is just what you get with sponsored reviews. You can either pay a low price (sometimes as low as $5 per review) to get a large number of reviews from small sites or you can focus on large players (which can charge several hundreds of dollars for a single review) that are authorities on your niche. The best way to purchase sponsored reviews is through sites like SponsoredReviews.com, ReviewMe or PayPerPost.com.
7. Blog Networks: there are several blog networks founded around a traffic exchange principle. Basically you create an account for you blog and you earn credits by surfing other members’ blogs. Afterwards you can use those credits to make people visit your blog or to display your banners around the network. The interesting part is that most of those blog networks allow users to purchase credits with money, and the price is really convenient. You should be able receive hundreds of visitors or to get thousands of banner impressions for less than 10 dollars. Some blog networks that sell credits include Blog Explosion, Blog Soldiers and Blog Advance.

I have written about pay per post in the past and I am not talking only about the platform going by that name – I am referring to the practice in general. My opinion has not really changed, I still think that it is alright to engage in pay per post practices as long as you are clear about it and you let your readers know which posts are sponsored.
These days, though, it seems as if the pay per post realm is not doing so well. I have not kept it a secret that I am using some of these platforms for my personal blogs and lately, I have not been getting much work from them. One big reason is the fact that my PageRank went down several steps several times. The funny thing is that the only reason I could find for the decline in PageRank is the fact that I was (and am) doing paid posts.
So this question cropped up in my mind – is pay per post still worth it?
I have to say that as time passes by, it seems to me that it just might not be worth it. For one, the more paid posts you put up in your blog, the spammier it tends to look. This can, of course, be avoided by creative writing and inserting of keywords and links. Still, too many of these posts – and you need lots to make a considerable amount of money – is never good.
Another reason is the PageRank issue. You want PageRank, of course, but you can’t get it if you do paid posts – at least, if Google finds out. And you can’t get enough assignments if you have no or low PageRank. It’s the chicken and the egg.
If you are relying largely on paid posts for income from your blog, it might be time to rethink things. I am.

For most folks, owning your own business is a dream come true. The freedom of being your own boss and succeeding to the best of your ability are facts of life for the small business owner. Sure, there's more stress than what you probably imagined when you were creating your grand plans, but with a little strategy and planning you can overcome any tough spot you get in. There are 7 tactics developed by successful marketers that are sure to make your business as successful as theirs.
1. Create A One of a Kind Selling Point
If you want to stand out from the crowd, create a unique selling proposition that stresses the benefits the customers will receive from doing business with you. Will they get faster service? Go ahead and dramatize it, but keep the customer at the focus..."Get free overnight delivery!" Hey, it tells the customer...you get quick service and a discount on shipping. Two definite benefits in one statement.
Why should someone buy from you and not your competitor? I hate to deal a blow to your ego, but it really has nothing to do with you , your product, or your service. Yeah, its a little self-centered, but customers are attracted by offers that point out the things that benefit THEM.
Don't go out on a limb to create new products and services to get attention. Just, add a special benefit to the ones you already have... maybe it's quicker service. The most effective things to emphasize are benefits that your competition cannot or is not willing to give.
2. Use Testimonials
Hey, we all know that business owners think their product or services are the best thing going, but it's what the current customers think about it that really matters to your prospective customers. They're the ones who see things from their point of view... what they have to say about the business has an impact.
Testimonials play an important part in advertising - especially for small businesses. Yeah, big businesses with well-known names don't have to worry about it, but small companies can use testimonials as marketing tools to build credibility.
Think about it...how else can we gain credibility than by creating a group of satisfied customers and shouting what they have to say? Let's look at some ways we can make testimonials an effective part of our marketing campaigns.
3. Upsell
Upselling is one of the most successful marketing trends today. Everywhere you go, someone is trying to get you to buy more. From McDonalds with its supersize options to clothing stores that try to sell you shoes to match your outfit, everyone's jumping on the band wagon. Why? It works!
Your customers already know that you have great products and provide satisfactory service. They trust you to come through for them. Think about it... it's much easier to make sales to someone you already have a relationship with.
Use every opportunity to increase your sales volume within the customer audience you already have. Do you have a product that goes with the one they are purchasing? Offer it to them at the register. It's a proven and effective method for increasing sales. You may be shocked at the additional sales you can generate from those who are already buying from you.
4. Make Your Price Seem Smaller
Divide and conquer... The old war tactic works in marketing too! When the price seems too steep, break it down into "buyable" size bites. An $120 item is only 12 low monthly payments of $10. A $365 purchase would only cost $1 per day. Now that sounds affordable!
5. Paint The Benefits Pretty
Customers buy because they want to enjoy the benefits of the purchase. A lady might buy a dress because she wants to feel sexy, or a man will buy a book because he finds pleasure in reading. Emotions are the key element that drives purchases.
Use word pictures to stir up the emotions that will instigate the sale. Let them "feel" the benefits, and they'll be more apt to head for the cash register. Put them where you want them.
6. Create Attention Getting Headlines
Are you ready to capture your reader's attention with great copy? The headline is the place to start. How often do you scan the newspaper's headlines before you decide whether or not to read the article? Yeah, that's where we lose or gain the reader's interest, so it's a pretty important part of the advertisement.
A good headline should telegraph its message in twelve words or less. Double check those headlines. Do they make a promise of a positive benefit, or ask a provocative question? Don't settle for less than attention grabbing statements.
7. Provide An Offer They Can't Resist
Is your deal too good to pass up? If not, you need to improve it. Hey, I'm not talking about cutting prices even more...you've still got to make a profit. You can make the deal sweeter just by increasing the readers knowledge of the value of the product, or adding bonuses that are perceived as valuable, but cost you little.
Motivate buyers with expirations. Yeah, an open ended offer encourages procrastination...which leads ...yep, nowhere. When the customer knows he has until Saturday to purchase an item he'll pay more for on Sunday, he'll make it a priority to head for your shop.

The humdrum existence of going to the office day after day doing the usual 9-5 shift is a trying task for those who have lived all their lives doing so. This is why the convenience of doing work at home under amazingly flexible working hours is a dazzling prospect to them. Doing work at home that is as fulfilling as having a career working for a computer on the 19th floor of a skyscraper is already a possibility in these modern times. This is because the jungle-like network that is the internet has given birth to a business that has given some people practically new lives doing nothing but so.
This particular business allows people to work at home under flexible working hours. There is no boss to scream around putting pressure on everyone about the deadline at hand. There is no clutter of messy paperwork that needs to be completed the soonest possible time. Conveniences such as these are experienced by those who are into affiliate marketing, the newest way to earn money without having to go through all sorts of routine found in regular employment.
Those who have been in the business long enough can attest to the fact that it is a lucrative business indeed, one that can actually give people things that they could not possibly possess or experience under ordinary circumstances.
The business called affiliate marketing involves an affiliate’s promotion of a merchant’s website. Here the website owned by the affiliate is made to advertise and market the website of the merchant through the affiliate program that they run. Whenever someone clicks on the merchant’s website promoted by the one owned by the affiliate, the affiliate is given a commission. This is in recognition of his effort in helping the merchant make a sale.
The system involved in affiliate marketing seems easy, but it also takes a lot of diligence and perseverance for one to be able to penetrate it thoroughly. Those who want to get into this type of business should possess the necessary skills to be able tread through the industry with confidence and self-assurance. Still, other factors are needed by one to be able to really break in. Knowledge about the business at hand is very important as it dictates the actions that are to be done by people who are into it.
The leading figure in affiliate marketing is the super affiliate. He is basically an e-mail marketer who collects large databases of e-mail addresses through newsletters. Super affiliates are also those who know the business even better than affiliate managers as a result of their knowledge about the affiliate marketing industry inside out. Those who want to be super affiliates should know that becoming a super affiliate is not easy, because it takes a lot to be able to master the marketing craft.
Becoming a super affiliate means having one’s own website and autoresponder. These tools will help a lot in one’s facilitation of the business. Building one’s own list is another. Creating a loyal customer base and taking care of it is one secret that successful super affiliates have. Making good customer relations is also important if one wants to be a super affiliate to reckon with.
Continuing to market to the people on one’s list is another must if one wants to succeed as a super affiliate. Sending out quality content in lieu of ads is an advantage as products are marketed better whenever enough information is given about them.
Building traffic to one’s own site is also one of the most essential points in the affiliate marketing business. Making one’s affiliate links his own business will allow him to build a strong relationship with his customers, enabling him to market to them over and over again.
The most important thing one should remember if he wants to become a super affiliate is to treat affiliate marketing as a business first and foremost. If he is capable of doing this, then he will never have to go back to the humdrum existence of working the 9-5 shift. A career as a super affiliate in the business which will change his life forever could possibly take that unexciting job’s place.

Using Autoresponders To Multiply Marketing Power & Save Time!
One of the best ways to cultivate new business and save
hours of time is to use an autoresponder. An autoresponder
gives you the ability to follow-up *automatically* on the
email addresses you capture. Instead of wasting hours
following up manually, you can let your autoresponder follow
up while you do the things that you do best -- build your
business...putter in the garden...chase your kids around the
house...catch up on your power-napping.
If you have an autoresponder, today`s lesson will show you
how to make it super-effective. If you don`t have an
autoresponder, Empowerism is the place to go.
(As so many of our subscribers already know, Empowerism is
truly dedicated to providing an ALL-IN-ONE SOLUTION to the
challenges of selling on the Internet. I hope you`ll visit
our site and let us "show you around" Empowerism and the
exciting RSVP -- the NEW way to buy leads.)
Using Autoresponders To Multiply Marketing Power & Save Time!
An autoresponder gives you the ability to send messages
effortlessly for months on end. So if you captured an email
address six months ago, your autoresponder can repeatedly
contact that person to offer your product or service.
WASH-RINSE-REPEAT
Repeat contact is a concept that top marketers first used
effectively in the offline world. When you conduct a direct
mail campaign, you send out message after message until it`s
no longer cost-effective. This strategy yields a much higher
response rate than with a one-shot mailing (typically just
1% or less).
-From the Research Labs: Research shows that, on average, A
PROSPECT MUST BE CONTACTED SEVEN TIMES before you
have any real chance at closing a sale.
BE IN THE TOP 10
If you apply this strategy to your Internet marketing
campaigns, you`ll have a real edge over the competition.
Remember: 90% of businesses do not follow-up with
prospects!
=========================================
OPEN THE DOOR & CLOSE THAT SALE WITH EMPOWERISM`S
UNBEATABLE AUTORESPONDER SUCCESS TECHNIQUES
=========================================
TECHIQUE #1 - THE "KILL OVERKILL" TECHNIQUE
You don`t want an email-inbox crammed with ads and sales
letters, and neither does anyone else. Don`t send out sales
letter after sales letter. Your messages will become an
annoyance and the recipient will either unsubscribe or just
delete the messages whenever they arrive.
By sending a series of sales letters SPACED APART BY 2-4
DAYS, you`ll keep your prospect aware of your business and
develop credibility over time without being a pest.
TECHNIQUE #2 - THE "MY GIFT TO YOU" TECHNIQUE
Send freebies such as ebooks, info reports, newsletters,
software, or even product samples. Many marketers use this
approach by offering a newsletter.
-Sneaky Salesmanship: Within the newsletter you have an
excellent opportunity to plug your product with a few lines
of irresistible copy.
With the soft sell approach, you can contact your prospect
once or even twice a week with "valuable information" --
which coincidentally mentions your product or service --
without seeming like you`re over-selling. If you`re a
vacuum cleaner distributor, for example, send a newsletter
on allergies and dust mites, for example.
TECHNIQUE #3 - THEY`LL LEARN/YOU`LL EARN
TECHNIQUE
Give away a valuable training course via email that has
special appeal to your recipients! You can create a simple
3-day, 5-day, 7 day, or even longer course. And at the end
of some of the course lessons you can add a few lines of
copy plugging your product or service.
This, too, is a soft sell approach.
TECHNIQUE #4 - COMBO PLATTER TECHNIQUE
Use a variation of the hard sell, soft sell approach.
Simply alternate your messages. A balance of 40% hard-sell
and 60% soft-sell is generally about right.
That wraps up today`s lesson. Earlier I promised you a
"crash course" in creating the perfect email message. Keep
your eye on the horizon for: 8 Steps to Irresistible Copy
EVERY Time."

If you want an email campaign to succeed, you don`t want to offend anyone when sending your messages. Turn off a consumer with your email and you can be sure they`ll tune out your message. Don`t let this happen to you! A message that earns respect makes sales. That`s why our first topic for discussion is email etiquette. (Later in the course, we`ll talk more about how to write an email sales letter.) Train yourself to always -- and I mean ALWAYS -- stick to the rules below when crafting your email message.
=> RULE #1 - ALWAYS WRAP YOUR LINES AT 65 CHARACTERS OR LESS Whenever you write an email, always format the lines so that they`re 65 characters, or less, across. To do this, you may need to do a "hard return" by hitting "Enter" at the end of the line. Wondering why to limit your lines to just 65 characters? (Good question! It shows you`re thinking.) There are two reasons that "less is more": -- The first thing to remember is that looking at a computer screen for a long time causes EYE FATIGUE for many readers. The shorter span of characters across the screen makes reading easier and more appealing to the recipient of your email message. -- The other reason to go short instead of long is this: some email clients AUTOMATICALLY ENFORCE LINE-WRAPPING at 60-65 characters on received messages. If your email is wrapped at 70, the content will arrive all "chopped up." This makes it unattractive...and worse -- unappealing. -- Tip within a Rule #1: Email clients such as Outlook Express allow you to SET THE LINE-WRAP to any character-width you choose. That means you won`t have to hit Enter each time after typing 65 characters. Makes life easier! -- Tip within a Rule #2 - You can type 65 asterisks or dashes in a Notepad file to create a template. Then paste your email below it to see if any lines extend too far to the right.
=> RULE # 2 - BE CAREFUL USING ALL CAPS How many times have you changed the TV channel to avoid listening to a screaming car salesperson? No one likes a screaming salesperson...and no one likes a "screaming" email message, either. Odds are, when someone has over-amped the volume of their message by using too many capital letters (not to mention too many exclamation points and other punctuation) - you`re going to be turned off. On the Internet, email messages written in all caps are considered yelling. It`s okay to write some sentences and some words in all caps, but don`t go overboard. (As you can see in this message, I`ve tried to use capital letters to help break up sections of the content from time to time) -- Tip within a Rule: Consumers buy from a source they trust. Emails in all caps are perceived as "shady" or uneducated, and have an appearance that damages the credibility of an offer.
=> RULE #3 - WATCH YOUR Ps & Qs (Spelling and Grammar) Would you be influenced by an email selling you something that had noticeable spelling and grammar mistakes? Sure you would...and the influence would be negative, not positive! When a consumer reads a sales message that`s filled with errors, they think to themselves, "Good grief, this person doesn`t even take the time to get his emails right. His product is probably the same quality as his emails." When you`re in business, YOUR IMAGE IS YOUR REPUTATION and your reputation is the reason people buy from you or the guy down the block. It`s essential that you create an image of INTEGRITY, CREDIBILITY, and HONESTY in the mind of your prospects. Sending emails filled with errors doesn`t hurt your professional image...it destroys it. (Ouch!) That`s it for now, but I`ll be back with Lesson #2 faster than you can say, "I want to be EMPOWERED" Sincerely.

Given the inherent problems with traditional marketing techniques, it`s important to master the BASIC STRATEGIES FOR INTEGRATING EMAIL into your overall campaign. As I`ve just shown you, sending out an EMAIL CAN BE MUCH CHEAPER than other marketing methods. Proceed with caution, however. Email can also cost you a fortune -- in lost opportunities AND cold hard cash -- IF you don`t know the basics. So that`s where we`re going to start. First, always keep in mind that your "primary objective". the master key that unlocks your "Success Vault" in Internet Marketing is to build your mailing list - your EMAIL MAILING LIST. (Often referred to as your "In-house list.") The addresses you collect are going to mean the difference between the middle-of-the-road results that Average Joe and Jane are achieving and the through-the-roof, over-the-top, to-the-moon-and-back MEGA-success that top online sellers achieve. (The difference really is that dramatic.) So don`t miss the boat: The time is NOW to start building your list of email addresses (prospects). REVIEW You can begin to grow your list simply by capturing emails from people who visit your website, as we have already discussed in a previous lesson. => Pop Quiz: What`s the easiest way to convince people to give you their email address? (Answer: Offer an irresistible freebie with a sign-up form on your site or in a pop-up box, drive traffic to your site, and watch as people start entering their email address. Don`t have a freebie? Get a good one from the Empowerism treasure chest!) Okay, so now you`re "in the groove". you`re capturing people`s emails like crazy. But if you`re just sitting there - well, you know the old saying, "Even if you`re on the right track, you`ll get run over if you just sit there." So what next? -- Let me take a moment from telling how to build your email list to remind you why. It`s been said that - YOU CAN GET RICH WITH AN EMAIL LIST OF JUST 1000 PEOPLE! Think about that. Then stop thinking and get going on new ways to capture and keep email addresses. (By the way, if you haven`t already "gotten with the program" yet, I wanted to remind you that EMPOWERISM RSVP presents an unparalleled opportunity for you to build a mountain of wealth with a leads-buying program that rewards you quickly and generously). GIVE `TIL IT HURTS! If you want to keep getting addresses, start giving stuff away! Give, give, and keep finding more things to give! And since you can`t send a TOASTER through email, why not give the far more valuable -- and far more affordable for you -- INFORMATION PRODUCTS, business
tools, and expert advice - maybe even a no-cost/obligation email marketing course like this one! DRIP, DRIP, DRIP. You`ll want to have a series of letters already set up so that they can be "dripped" on your prospects on a regular basis. Send a message daily, every other day, or on whatever schedule suits you best, but make contact AT LEAST EVERY 7 DAYS. If you`re not confident in your writing skills, you have two choices: you can hire a professional to write the letters for you or you can use a system already set up with letters to help you build your email list. (I suppose the third choice is to just give up and bury your heard in the sand, but that`s no way to make a million!).

- Harnessing the Power of Email Marketing
The bell has "rung" and it`s time for today`s lesson. First, I`d like you to consider these four facts: *A DIRECT MAIL PIECE costs about 40-cents in postage alone. (And then you have to factor in paper and printing costs.) *A PHONE CALL can cost just as much - or more - than a direct mail piece. *A PHONE CALL wastes time (and time is money) because you`ll spend precious minutes - sometimes hours or days - trying to contact the right person. *A MESSAGE left on voice mail is almost always a waste of time, and therefore a waste of money. Depressing? Not at all. After you read today`s "Marketing Strategies that EMPOWER Success" lesson, you`ll be able to say "NO" to the downside of phone calls and direct mail and "YES" to the upside of email.
